Tui Na

Tuina is Chinese Massage TherapyTui Na is the use of specialized massage techniques (rolling, kneading, pressing, rubbing, and brushing) along with the stimulation of acupressure points to promote circulation in the body. Treatment is determined based on the same diagnostic principles as used with other TCM treatment modalities such as the use of the pulse and tongue to determine which areas of the body are blocked.

What makes Tui na unique to other massage styles or techniques is that it may be used not only for musculo-skeletal problems but for other conditions such as digestive disorders like constipation, gynecological conditions such as painful menstruation and the common cold, just to name a few. Herbal ointments and liniments are often used to enhance treatments.

Tuina is safe therapy for infantsTui na is also a wonderful technique for infants and toddlers as it provides gentle, effective treatment without the use of acupuncture needles. In addition, many of these techniques can be taught to parents and used at home to provide relief for minor discomfort associated with, for instance, colic or teething.
